Feast Day, Saints, Theotokos -

Deposition of the Cincture of the Theotokos

Today we celebrate the deposition of the cincture (sash) of the Theotokos.

Tradition holds that Mary gave her cincture to the apostle Thomas, and it was brought to Constantinople and kept in a sealed reliquary. The Empress Zeo became ill and asked for the cincture to be put on her as prayers were said for Empress Zeo's healing. The Empress was healed immediately!

In this feast, we recognize that Our Lady can plead to the Father on our behalf and in her pleading bring about healing in our life.
