The Holy Innocents
Today we celebrate the feast of the holy innocents, when Herod slaughtered boys 2 and under in Bethlehem in a murderous attempt to prevent the "future king" he'd heard of from taking over his throne. We celebrate the holy innocents as some of the first martyrs of the church, unknowingly giving their lives for Christ.
What a hard day that must have been. So many innocent lives taken, so many families in mourning, so many friends trying to offer comfort. All so a man could remain in power, despite him not being able to take this power to his grave.
Today let us remember the innocent people who have lost their lives due to senseless violence or war, and remember their families and friends who try to provide comfort. May the peace of Christ be with them this Christmas season.
