Feast Day, Saints -

The Holy Martyr Theodotus and the Holy Seven Virgins

Today we celebrate the Holy Martyr Theodotus and the Holy Seven Virgins Tecusa, Phaine, Claudia, Matrona, Julia, Alexandra, and Euphrasia. Theodotus was an innkeeper during the time of Diocletian. He was an innkeeper and opened his inn to Christians who needed somewhere to stay and not arouse suspicion. Theodotus would also secretly bury Christians who had been killed by the pagans.

The seven virgins - Tecusa, Phaine, Claudia, Matrona, Julia, Alexandra, and Euphrasia - were killed by the pagans, and Tecusa (Thodotus' aunt) appreared to him in a dream and asked him to bury them. He retrieved their bodies from a lake where they had been drowned.

Theodotus was betrayed by a friend for this act, and gave his life for Christ.
