The Priestly-Martyr Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata

Today we celebrate the priestly-martyr Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata. St. Eusebius was a great defender against the Arian heresy. During various time of persecution, he donned the attire of a soldier to be able to go visit people in other cities, bringing the Gospel to them, and ordaining priests, deacons, and bishops as needed. He was instrumental during the Council of Antioch in proclaiming again the truths proclaimed during the Council of Nicea, denouncing Arianism.

St. Eusebius died on a trip to a town where he was set to ordain a bishop and denounce Arianism. Someone in the town felt so strongly that Arianism was correct, that they hurled a boulder at him. The boulder (or super large stone) struck him on the head and killed him.
