Weekly Gospel Reflection

Sunday's Gospel features one of my (Beth) favorite lines in Scripture. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” It is an accurate portrayal of a life of faith, where belief exists and is so present, and yet unbelief exists and is also present, all in the same person. That exclamatory comment from the child's father is an incredible prayer, one of passion and humility. The father knows who he is in relation to Jesus and is throwing himself on Jesus' mercy in intercession of his child.

How about you? Do you see yourself in this man's shoes? Full of belief and unbelief at the same time, holding these two opposites in yourself? May his prayer also be your prayer this week. "[Lord], I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
