Saint John of the Ladder
Yesterday we commemorated St. John Climacus, also known as St. John of the Ladder. St. John of the Ladder is well known for his book, Ladder of Divine Ascent. Each chapter is a "step" on a rung of a ladder. He covers virtues necessary for the ascetic life, overcoming vices, and growing in virtues.
Mother Natalia gave this as one of her favorite quotes of his, which ties in well with our episode Wednesday. That's a teaser for you!
"Do not be surprised that you fall every day; do not give up, but stand your ground courageously. And assuredly, the angel who guards you will honour your patience. While a wound is still fresh and warm, it is easy to heal; but old, neglected and festering ones are hard to cure, and require for their care much treatment, cutting, plastering and cauterization. Many from long neglect become incurable, but with God all things are possible."
Have you read the Ladder of Divine Ascent? Any favorite passages or quotes?
