St. Ephraim
St Ephraim the Syrian was a prolific writer who is said to have written over one million lines of songs and poems. His most well known prayer is the Prayer of St. Ephraim, which we pray often during the Great Fast. There are several translations or "flavors", but generally the prayer is:
Lord and Master of my life,
Lord and Master of my life,
spare me from the spirit of indifference, despair,
lust for power, and idle chatter.
Instead, bestow on me, your servant,
Instead, bestow on me, your servant,
the spirit of integrity, humility, patience, and love.
Yes, O Lord and King, let me see my own sins
Yes, O Lord and King, let me see my own sins
and not judge my brothers and sisters,
For you are blessed forever and ever. Amen.
This prayer is prayed often during the Great Fast, including at Presanctified Liturgy. Want to learn more? Mother Natalia and Father Michael did two episodes on the prayer back in 2021.
