This week the Church in her wisdom gives us the Bridegroom Matins. The Bridegroom Matins are celebrated the first three days of Holy Week, and each day commemorates a different theme.
This Thursday we celebrate the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete. The canon was written by St. Andrew of Crete as part of his personal meditation and reflects on both the New Testament and the Old Testament in identifying how we should live.
During the Great Fast, we celebrate the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, oftentimes referred to as Presanctified Liturgy. During this liturgy, the faithful are provided an opportunity to receive communion which was consecrated on Sunday during Divine Liturgy.
St Ephraim the Syrian was a prolific writer who is said to have written over one million lines of songs and poems. His most well known prayer is the Prayer of St. Ephraim, which we pray often during the Great Fast.
