The Venerable Anthony of the Monastery of the Caves in Kyiv

Today we celebrate the Venerable Anthony of the Monastery of the Caves in Kyiv. He is one of the founders of the Monastery of the Caves in Kyiv.
St. Anthony become a monk on Mount Athos where he became known for his humility and obedience. He was recognized for his aesthetic life and sent back to Russia to establish his own monastery. It took St. Anthony time to find where he was being called, but eventually settled in a cave near Kyiv.
St. Anthony was visited by many people looking for advice and counsel, and also attracted other monastic followers. St. Anthony has two feast days, one on September 2 which he shares with St. Theodosius (pictured here) and one on July 10, which is the day the Mother of God appeared to him to foretell him of his death.

From the Kontakion:
"From your youth you gave yourself to God whom you loved above all, O Venerable One;
And in love you followed after him with your whole soul..."
